Today is Father's Day as it is recognized around the world. It's a day like Mothers Day that is also a global holiday that has local roots. Where Mother's Day originated in Grafton, Father's Day originated in Fairmont. Father's Day was rumored to have started due to a nearby mine explosion in Monongah, which kind of touches home with me because my father was a coal miner in Marion County until the day we lost him on July 20, 1999.
I would like to take this time and extend a very Happy Fathers Day greeting to all of those special men who have taken the special role of being a father.
