Saturday Morning Ramblings

Here Kiwi (who gets top billing this week), Sophie, Peanut and I sit in a quiet household. We're all sitting up and discussing whether James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman has the better voice to do voiceovers for dramatic movies. Kiwi and I argue it's James Earl Jones as he is also the voice of Darth Vader, and Sophie and Peanut insist that it it Morgan Freeman because of his work with Shawshank Redemption. The debate continues.

It's going to be a busy day in Morgantown, The WVU Football Spring game is at 1:00 this afternoon, that will give everyone a chance to see how the 2022 Mountaineers are shaping up. I have a funny feeling that our starting Quarterback isn't here yet as JT Daniels won't be here until the summer or fall. He was Georgia's starting QB last year and one of the early favorites for the Heisman Trophy, he is transferring here but he's still finishing up his undergrad at Georgia. Should be a great game, one I am looking forward to as I always do.

The All American Grand Bash will be held today at Mylan Park. I had a notion to buy a ticket, as proceeds go to WVU Children's Hospital and all the prizes would be worth winning. I think they are giving away 6 cars today as well as a number of other prizes. So what did my notion get me? My ticket. Michelle said I should have given Amy the money and had her buy it...lol

Traffic should be pretty busy around town, so please use a little extra caution when driving around this side of town today as there are some big events taking place.

I'm doing fieldwork for RTI today, I'm going to try to get an early start as I have a dormitory I have to basically closeout and finalize. That alone may take me a couple of hours just doing that believe it or not as it is going to be time-consuming.

Have yourselves a great day.

It's Football

Here I sit the quiet dawn of football morning, all happy to know that College Football season is now starting. Peanut is excited and Kiwi is still sleeping saying not this stuff again.

The Mountaineers start their 2021 campaign and taking on bordering state rival the Maryland Turds (or Terrapins if that floats your boat) in College Park this afternoon for a 3:30 PM Kickoff. The Mountaineers are a slight favorite, but we have also been put on the upset watch meaning we are one of today's favorites who could be upset. The game is in Maryland and Maryland's coach Mike Locksley was actually on the shortlist back in 2007 to replace Rich Rodriguez after he left for Michigan. Should be a good game.

I can't make a prediction, WVU does return Jarret Doege last seasons starting Quarterback, but he had to be pulled in the 2nd half of the bowl game against Army as was Running Back Leddie Brown, and none of last years receivers had me very confident that any of them could make a routine catch last year. However it is a new year, a revamped Offensive Line and hopefully the bugs are all worked out as we begin Neal Brown's third year as the WVU Head Football Coach.

I'll be watching with great anticipation this afternoon that we can in fact win the game, but I do have to say I'm not that confident coming into this season. I would welcome the opportunity to prove my gut is wrong and that this is a solid football team, but that will have to be done on the field.

Have yourselves a great day and a great start to the 2021 season.

Let's Go!!!!

Sunday

Here I sit on a semi-quiet Sunday Morning,. we are dog sitting Rocky and Lilly and Lilly and I are up at at em already. We are watching the Charlies Angels movie on the tube and collecting our thoughts for the day.

I have to confess I was working yesterday, so I recorded the game as I was out. I was listening to it while I was working and we were getting spanked and dominated by Texas Tech. I drive home and am talking to Michelle about all the work she did at the house yesterday all the while not turning on the TV. Michelle looked at her phone and much to my surprise, we were now winning 38-35 after rallying from an 18 point margin early in the 3rd Quarter to win 46-35 in front of a Homecoming crowd. From my understanding the crowd was electric and I even read where a friend of mine Chris Ostien (Steelers Trivia and Softball Teammate) said "Thirteen seasons of producing games at Mountaineer Field. Today was.... maybe the most memorable.... What an win. What an atmosphere. Still buzzing." It must have been special, I have it recorded.

Michelle did a great job of purging a lot of stuff from the back bedroom. Most of it junk the kids had left behind and was just simply taking up space. Old games and just large boxes full of junk we would never use again, to the trash it all went and organized it now is. Chad may be moving back in in the near future, so the purge really helps. No need keeping junk you're not going to use.

Michelle and I harvested some Black Walnuts yesterday, we have an abundance of them like never before, and once we identified what they were were grabbed them all up off the floor. We cleaned and washed about 3-4 dozen of them and have them drying now. It takes 2-4 weeks for them to dry, so we shall see. There are more out there that we picked up, not sure if we will clean them though as even working with rubber gloves, the black ink stains the hands.

Typical Sunday morning for us, we'll be heading out and doing our shopping and visiting Phoenix Bakery this morning, before I once again head my butt out to travel to do some more field work. During the week I am working locally, but on weekends I have to travel about an hour each way to get to the segment.

Have yourselves a great day today.

Sunday Morning Rambling

Here I sit in a quiet household once again, there is nothing on on the Boob Tube and I have my headphones on listening to some Don Williams Music who just recently passed away and collecting my thoughts for the day.

The Mountaineers bounced back from last weeks opening loss to beat East Carolina 56-20 yesterday here in Morgantown. WVU was up 49-3 at the half, son the score ended up being closer than the actual game so to speak. QB Will Grier threw for 5 TD's and former recruited QB David Sills (who was signed by USC when he was 13 years old to play QB) caught 7 passes for 153 yard and 3 of those touchdowns. RB Justin Crawford had another 100 yard effort as the Mountaineers looked very good yesterday.

Today is the day that we would have left on our Cruise, but obviously all those plans have changed as we canceled a couple of months ago and the Cruise itself had been changed due to Hurricane's Irma is about to hit landfall in Florida at a Cat 4 (downgraded from a Cat 5) and Jose, another Cat 4 is coming up right behind her and it would have been right in the cruises path of travel. Carnival has changed their itinerary and they are going to Halifax Nova Scotia and St. John even further north of that. If we had to cancel a year, this was probably the best year to do so as we will return to our normal cruising schedule next year!!!

Today will be filled with shopping, laundry and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers as their NFL season begins this afternoon.

Have yourselves a great day.

It's Gameday in Morgantown

It's finally here, yes it started last week with the 2017 Home Football Season. The Season started last Sunday with a 24-31 loss to heated Rival Virginia Tech as they retained the Black Diamond Trophy, bu the home season starts today.

I'm sure that even in these wee early hours in the morning, even before they open the lots up to tailgating, that there are people wandering around town with the "I Need Tickets" signs, even though they already have a stack of them in hand lol.

Today the Mountaineers take on East Carolina whom both teams are 0-1 on the season after ECU lost last week to Jeanettas Alma Mater James Madison University. Don't ever discount them though, you never know what ECU has have been known to give us a lot of trouble in the past, but I think we will be fine.

The game kicks off at noon here in Morgantown and I'm sure the Mountaineers will be playing in front of a full stadium as fans want their first home glimpse at new QB Will Grier who will most likely be a next level QB as he is the former Gatorade National Player of the Year and former starting QB at the University of Florida.

Should be a good game, I'll be watching it from my living room with the surround sound, and shorter bathroom lines than there would be at the stadium.

Let's Go Mountaineers.

Sunday Morning Ramblings

Well here I sit on a quiet Sunday Morning, May is behind me chowing down on a Pig Ear and I'm up watching the Devils Advocate on Amazon and surfing the interwebs checking scores from last night that I may have missed.

Yesterday was cookie day, you can tell Sammy has already broken into one batch and has been chowing down. Michelle busted her butt all day yesterday and is to be commended, she is a remarkable and tireless woman and I was distracted with other things and wasn't much help.

The WVU Women's Soccer team plays for the National Championship today, cheer this special group of ladies on and bring that National Championship Trophy home.

The WVU Men's Basketball team went on the road to #6 Virginia and won 66-57. This is a big win for Coach Huggins and the Press Virginia team, they just wore out the #6 team in the country on their home court.

WVU Football garnered their 10th win of the season yesterday with a 24-21 win over Baylor in what may have been one of the most sluggish performances that we have seen this year. Justin Crawford came back from last weeks injury and rushed for 209 yards in leading the offense. The Defense was pretty much lights out most of the game.

Today is a back to normal day with our grocery shopping in the morning and watching the Mountaineer ladies bring it home this afternoon.

Have a great day.

Saturday

Sammy
Here I sit on a quiet Saturday Morning, I'm sitting here collecting my thoughts for the day and watching Tosh.O on Comedy Central. I hear Peanut running around creating Chaos but I think Sammy is the Mastermind of it all, he's just egging her on and getting her riled up.

Well first let me start by saying the #1 Ranked WVU Women's Soccer team advanced to the NCAA Finals and will take on the #7 Ranked USC Trojans tomorrow for the National Championship after beating the #6 Ranked and multiple time National Champion University of North Carolina. Bring it home Ladies, we are all behind you.

Michelle and her Friend
The WVU Men's Football team plays their final regular season game of the year this afternoon at 3:30, this will be the final home for many of our Seniors, there will be our send off game and thank you ti so many who have given so much to the program for years.

Today is going to be the first Saturday that I have either not worked or did not travel somewhere since September 24th. I knew before it started that there was going to be a long streak that was going to carry me to beyond Thanksgiving and the job with RTI did just that.

Today I will be helping my wife with some baking (I'll be the quality Control tester) and probably learning to utilize my new camera to get the optimum results.

Next weekend is a travel weekend for us as we head to Ohio for Michelle's family version of Christmas.

Have yourselves a great day today.

Sammy, the Return

Here I sit once again on a quiet Sunday Morning when I notice that we have a house guest returning. Making his 2017 coincidentally on the exact same day as Michelle decorated our Christmas Tree is Sammy the Elf on a Shelf.

You may remember Sammy from my blog last year, he showed up and seemed to be moving around the room and hiding every where. he made his blog debut a little over a year ago and wreaked havoc all through the house last year. Now he is back yet once again upon the household. I'm sure this will not be his last appearance before he takes off and hides again until next year.
As I was out working yesterday my wonderful wife pulled all of our Christmas decorations out and decorated the house for Christmas, hence why Sammy came back, I think he only comes out when the house is decorated. She did a wonderful job this year and I think that we have our best tree ever. Everything on it is personalized and has a story.

Peanut gave her approval as well, I swear she did not leave from under the tree for hours after it was put up. She laid quite comfortably, peacefully and if she had found her special place in this world under our Christmas Tree.

I'm not a big person on winter, snow or the cold climate weather that comes with it, but I absolutely love how the house looks and smells during this time of the year.

Oh and Congratulations to the #1 ranked Women's Soccer team, the West Virginia Mountaineers for punching their ticket for the College Cup (The Final 4) yesterday. We are very proud of you ladies.

The WVU Football team traveled to Ames Iowa and defeated Iowa State 49-19 yesterday afternoon. This moves us to 9-2 on the year with one more regular season game to go. Senior Day will be this coming Saturday and a chance to get 10 regular season wins for the first time since joining the Big XII.

Have yourselves a great day.

Saturday Morning Rambling

Here I sit yet once again in a quiet household, I'm the first one to recover from a losing battle with the Sandman last night and I'm up collecting my thoughts for the day and watching something on HBO.

I did get a little bit of sad news yesterday morning, we received word that Gussy the African Gray that Jean had had for years, had passed away on Thursday morning. Gussy was a bird with a large vocabulary and perfect timing with some of the things that she said. There were only a few people who could handle her, I was not among that group. I think Gussy has left us all we a few memories of her. RIP Gussy.

Michelle and I attended the WVU vs Mt St Mary's basketball game last night. The Mountaineers managed a 87-59 victory in the season debut. I do have to see this was my first look at the upgrades to the Coliseum and I have to say that I am very impressed with what I have seen. They have completely transformed the look and feel of the WVU Coliseums outer concourse. It will be a pleasant surprise for anyone who sees it and it's only half done.

I'll be heading out this morning to work for RTI, I'll also be out in the field again tomorrow so I'll be following my 26 day stretch up with a weekend off followed by at least another 19 day stretch and today is day 13. It's all about to slow down for the quarter however which I have to say does not bother me. I will welcome the much needed break.

The WVU Football team is in Texas to take on the Longhorns this afternoon, I'll probably miss most of the game but would like to see at least some of it.

Have yourselves a great day today.

It's Gameday

Here I sit yet one again in a quiet household, this is the quiet before the start of the storm that is known as college football. I'm up collecting my thoughts for the day and have no idea what is on the TV behind me.

Today is the start of the College Football Season here in Morgantown. The West Virginia Mountaineers kick off their season today against the Missouri Tigers here at Milan Puskar Stadium.

The Sea of RV's is already here and I'm sure that there will be people walking around soon with the "I Need Tickets" signs trying to buy up all the extra tickets to resell them later this morning. The Pride of West Virginia is probably starting to assemble at the stadium for their pre-game rehearsal before coming back in their uniforms. Tailgates and traffic will be main thing we see this morning, all coming into town and preparing for today's noon time game.

I am ready for the start of college football.

Go Mountaineers.

Saturday Morning Ramblings

Here I sit yet once again in a quiet household, only me, Fin and Sammy are up. Sammy decided he wants some coffee and has found the white chocolate sauce and wants some in his coffee. Good thing we have more of it, it would be a sad day in this household if Michelle couldn't have her white chocolate when she re-wakes up.

I have seen that a couple of my nieces have already set their Christmas Trees up for the season. This afternoon we are going to take a little bit of time out and set up and decorate Mom and Geralds Tree for the season. This will be the third year that we have put up their tree since they moved to their current residence, the tree gets more life every year. It looks like it's going to be a good turn out this year.

The WVU Basketball team won the Las Vegas Invitational last night with a 72-50 win over San Diego State. Richmond, the team WVU beat in the Semi-Finals beat #14th ranked Cal in the consolation game for 3rd place.

The WVU Seniors get to play one last game at Mylan Puskar Stadium as today is Senior day, the last home game of the season. Today's opponent will be Iowa State but we still have Kansas State to play next weekend and our bowl game, so this is not their last game, it's just the last time they will play in Morgantown. Thank you to all the Seniors for your commitment and helping this team transition into the Big XII.

Have yourselves a great day.

Sunday

Well here I sit once again in a semi-quiet household. Fin is up playing around and I'm up watching the Longest Yard on Amazon and collecting my thoughts for the day.

Michelle, Brittany and I had a great day yesterday in Amish Country. This was Brittany's first trip to the Ohio Amish Country, she had been to Lancaster Amish Country, but never to the more modernized Ohio Amish Country where we always go. I think she had a great time and it was a very memorable day for all of us. I was able to watch a lot of the WVU vs Texas game on my ESPN Go ap as they girls shopped to their little hearts were content.

I mentioned a couple of nights ago that an old classmate of mine was on Real Time with Bill Mahar Friday night. Asra was on the main show as a special guest and on Overtime with everyone else after the show was over. It was nice to see it went well, she responded with a nice letter after the show to me and a few other classmates telling us about her experience and a few old stories growing up. It's worth the watch.

Our plans fort the day are doing our grocery shopping, running to Phoenix Bakery and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers whip up on the Cleveland Browns. It's been a great weekend son far, hopefully a Steelers win today will be the cherry on top.

Have a great day, it's a home made beef stew kind of day.

It Was a Great Day to Be a Mountaineer

Wow what a day it was in Morgantown yesterday, Country Music Superstar and West Virginia native Brad Paisley stopped by Milan Puskar Stadium yesterday afternoon to be only the second artist (John Denver when it first opened) to perform Country Roads in front of a Football crowd. In a halftime interview, it was learned that Brad's Dad was a lifetime ticket holder and has even attended games at the old stadium downtown.

As far as the game, West Virginia revenged the 0-37 defeat we suffered two years ago when Maryland just had their way with us with a 45-6 win here yesterday. The halftime score was 38-0 and we were hitting on all cylinders, Offense, Defense and Special Teams and even pre-game entertainment...lol. We even set a school record for first downs with 37. Maryland did score on a long pass play in the 4th quarter, when they were already down 45-0.

The team looked great yesterday, we will have to see if we can enter into the top 25 in today's polls.  I think that we have a pretty good chance, that was a very convincing and totally dominating performance against a Big Ten team that might have gotten some notice.

It was a Great Day to be a Mountaineer.

It's Game Day

Here I sit on a quiet Saturday Morning before the big storm of Mountaineer Football takes the field later today watching a little bit of TV and collecting my thoughts for the day. It's a Football day for sure.

Last night I met up with my old Buddy Smitty and Steph at Genes before the MHS game last night. I did get to see Ron Blosser an old classmate who will be opening up a new bar called White Tails here in Morgantown Very soon. At the game I got to see a couple more old MHS classmates in Kim Terry who was watching her son Matthew play and Dawn Wells who was there to watch her nephew perform in the Red aand Blue Marching Band which made for a great night. Morgantown won 27-14 and made these Old alums quite happy. It had been quite a few years since I had actually attended a MHS game, so it was nice to get back to the old Alma Mater.

Today is the start of College Football here in Morgantown. The West Virginia University Mountaineers will start off their 2015 Campaign as they play host to Georgia Southern this evening at Milan Puskar Stadium at Mountaineer Field. A lot of questions still need to be answered for this seasons team, today I think we will see if we have answers to those questions namely in the Quarterback position as Skyler Howard has had an off season to prepare with the team rather than being thrown into action late last season. It should be an interesting game.

Michelle and My agenda for the day is still pretty undetermined, my guess is we will be taking a trip to some mall and be doing a little bit of last minute shopping before we take off for our cruise next Saturday.

Don't forget to set your DVR's tonight as the Pudgy Polamalus try to defend their 2014 KDKA McDonalds Pittsburgh Steelers Trivia Championship this evening, This is the semi-final round and if we win tonight or if we are the highest scoring semi-final round runner up we will advance to next weeks Championship. Last year in the Semi-Finals we lost the round, but advanced to the finals were we won it all. Will history repeat itself this year, will we be the shows first back to back Champions (actually third Championship overall or will we be sent home. I think this picture of what I received in the Mail yesterday is a very good indication....lol

Have a Great Day and Let's Goooooooo Mountaineers.

Big Ole Hairy Friday

Yes it is once again that time of the week that we all look foreword to, when we can take time to cease the labors for the week and take a little bit of needed time out to enjoy the fruits of those labors. It is once again the dawn of another weekend, and a Big Ole Hairy Friday and a Three Day Labor Day Weekend!!

Looking for a little football action? W have all kinds of action this weekend. Starting off Our Semi-Final Round of the KDKA McDonalds Pittsburgh Steelers Trivia show will air tomorrow night. We won our first round game a few weeks ago, now we are at crunch time with last Weeks Semi-Final Round played, it's up to us to see if we can advance to next weeks Championship round for all the Goodies. Can the Pudgy Polamalus advance, or will our fate stop here. Tune in to see of the Defending Champions can advance back to the Finals for what would be our 4th time in 4 appearances on the show. We've won it twice before and came in third once, can we repeat and be the only team to defend their title as well as being the only 3 time Champions? Tune in and find out.

Looking for a little bit of High School Football action? Morgantown High tries to make it 2-0 on the season tonight when they host Brooke this evening at Pony Lewis Field. University High tries to get their first win of the young season as they play hosts to Parkersburg South and Clay Battelle looks to make it 2-0 as they travel to Midland Trail this evening. Good luck to all three area teams this evening.

Looking for College action, well it starts tomorrow with the first game of the season for the WVU Mountaineers as they take on Georgia Southern right here in Morgantown tomorrow night. This should be a fun filled couple of days of College Football action.

Have a Great day and a great start to an extended Holiday weekend.

Let's get this party started, hi ho hi ho

Big Ole Hairy Friday

Yes it is once again that time of the week that we all look foreword to, when we can take time to cease the labors for the week and take a little bit of needed time out to enjoy the fruits of those labors. It is once again the dawn of another weekend, and a Big Ole Hairy Friday.

Well we had talked about traveling this weekend, however it's supposed to rain tomorrow plus my wonderful wife has an optometrist appointment early tomorrow morning, so we will probably be staying close to the Morgantown area tomorrow. There is the WVU Spring Game that is taking place tomorrow and I do have an interest in watching some of it to see how we are progressing, I may just DVR it and watch it later.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend other than the Gold-Blue Game tomorrow, the WVU Baseball team is taking on Kansas in a Big XII series this weekend at the Monongalia County Ballpark. Hopefully the weather may cooperate with them.

The big news I got yesterday? Jimmy Buffett is coming to Pittsburgh!!!!!! August 13th and the tickets to the general public go on sale May 3rd.

No big plans for Michelle and I this evening, dinner and shopping at Sam's Club this evening is on our agenda for the evening just like every other Friday.

Have a Great Day

Hump Day

Well that is two days down this week, now if we can just look up over that noon time hump, just on the other side of a photo flashback, you can see the dawn of another fun filled weekend off in the distance.

Well for you college football enthusiasts such as myself, today is a big day. It's when all of the recruiting over the last year has the first chance to be binding. Today in National Letter of Intent Day for College football. When High School Seniors actually sign on the dotted line and committing them to their school of choice. Prior to doing that a recruit can change his mind at any time and select another school with no problem. After today and when a recruit signs his LOI, it is now biding and if they want to choose another school they will have to sit out a season prior to transferring.

WVU has 21 kids in this class so far, with a few waiting until today to make their announcement. Four of these recruits are either Junior College Players or High School players who have already enrolled in the January Semester, that leaves 17 kids that we will need to sign today including Morgantown High's own Stone Wolfley.  It should be a good class, but we have lost a few recruits in the past couple of weeks, so we'll have to see how it all works out today.

Have a great day.

Saturday Morning Rambling

Here I sit once again in the early AM in a quiet household. Michelle actually beat me with her losing battle with the Sandman last night and was up before me, but she has since went back to bed after drinking about half of a pot of coffee. I'm up watching Information Discovery and cooking my morning breakfast.

For those interested, my procedure that I had done yesterday went fine, I'm good for another ten years now. No major problems or any cancerous cells. That wee long prep is now over with and things are returning to normal for me again. Thank You once again to my Sister Pam for driving me both to and from this procedure.

Well it is game day here in Morgantown. Tent City has a final count of 234 tents in preparation for this mornings Broadcast of ESPN's Gameday. Our guest picker has been selected and it is West Virginia's own son, Country Music Superstar and big fan of WVU Football Brad Paisley.

Visiting Morgantown for today's game is our 4th top 10 opponent of the year (and we're not done yet) in #8 TCU as they invade Morgantown at 3:30 this afternoon. It's cold wet and snowy, exactly what it is NOT in Texas (it was in the 90's for our game last week). I'm hoping for a good showing, I am optimistic today, so it should be a good one.

The MoHawk bowl was played last night. Congratulations to University High for winning this years game that had to go into overtime to settle the score.

Have a great day, we're shampooing carpets.

I'm actually off today myself, I have my week in and am using today for a Colonoscopy Procedure that I will have done today. I had to miss trick or treating last night in preparation for this procedure. Hopefully everything goes well.

Looking for a little High School Football action? Look no further than right here, tonight Clay Battelle travels to Notre Dame to play. Tonight is also the MoHawk Bowl, the crosstown rivalry between Morgantown High and University High and it takes place at Pony Lewis Field at 7:30 this evening. University High is on a playoff run and the Mohigans have probably had their worst record in 20+ years at 4-5 right now. I'm cheering for my Alma Mater, but something tells me that this is University High's year.

If you are looking for College Football action this week, Morgantown is the place to be. On the Mountainlaire they have set up Tent City, these are people hoping to get the best locations when College Game Day broadcasts for the second time from Morgantown tomorrow for our game with TCU. This will be our fourth game against a top 10 team this season and we have another one looming in two weeks with Kansas State. Hopefully this will be an exciting weekend in Morgantown.

Have a great day, I'm not looking forward to mine...lol

Oh no oh no

Sunday

Here I sit yet once again, in a quiet household after a great nights sleep and a losing battle with that dreaded Sandman. I'm up early watching Me, Myself and Irene on HBO and collecting my thoughts for the day.

It hasn't been announced as of yet, but going into Yesterday if we beat Oklahoma State and we did 34-10, if TCU beat Texas Tech and they did 82-27 and IF LSU upset #3 Ole Miss and they did 10-7 that Morgantown might be the site of College Gameday next week. All three things happened yesterday and we went from being the #2 possible game to possibly hosting Game day here as we take on our 4th Top 10 Program of the season as TCU visits town.

I don't think I have ever seen a year when we played 4 Top 10 teams in once season (Alabama #2, Oklahoma #4, Baylor #4 and TCU was #10 in last weeks poll and should move up) much less a potential for a 5th one on November 20th when Kansas State who is currently ranked #11 in one season.

I'm sure all Mountaineer fans will be eagerly anticipating today's announcement of where Gameday will broadcast from. If they come, this will be the second time that they have broadcast from Morgantown.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that we hear some good news today.

Hi ho hi ho
