Tuesday's Tidbits

* Monday is once again over with once again, time to start concentrating on the rest of the week.

* It has been 22,943 days since I was born, that is 21 years using my new,  new, new, and improved 1,069-day Calendar. Mom is at 30,585, which would make her 28 according to my new and improved calendar.

* It has been 8,198 days since I graduated from WVU with a Degree in Geography. I love what I do and am thankful to still be working in my field and continue to work in my field.

* 6,791 days ago, Michelle and I had our first date together. Life has been much better since then.

* 5,995 days ago, I proposed to Michelle in the backyard at 4:00 in the morning. I've been the luckiest guy since that fateful day.

* It was 5,568 days ago in front of our closest friends and family; for the most part, Michelle and I became husband and wife at the Marilla Center. It was a great day with friends and family.

* I have now lived 3,170 days longer than my Dad did and I'm still going strong, slowing down but still going.

* Michelle has been living a clean and productive life and beat that alcohol demon 1,842 days ago today.

* My older Brother Jonathan lived 21,287 days, I've now outlived him by 1,674 days, making me Senior Supreme Sibling once again!

* Old roommate Gregg proposed to his fiancΓ©e 402 days ago, I'm happy for those two. Waiting on the announcement.

* I have 1,962 days to go until I retire, give or take a few hundred days here or there, but I love doing what I do. Who knows, though, doing what I do I may never retire.

* There are only 283 more days to go until Michelle and I celebrate our 16th Wedding Anniversary.

* 119 more days until Phil steps to the center stage once again for Groundhog Day. I'm still mad at the damn rat

* 72 more days to go until my Goodbye 2026 Blog is posted.

* There are 65 more shopping days left until Christmas 2026.

* There are 50 days until I hit the age of 63. Yeah, I know, I'm really older than 21.

* It has been ∞ (infinity symbol) days since I have hated both Pitt and Penn State.

* I have written 8,538 blogs in what is now 22 years of Blogging.

* Still working 10's this week and probably next week as well.

* Progress on my Selfie in Space, right here. We are ready for liftoff and holding.

* You know using a PC with a keyboard that connects by Bluetooth leads to so many more misspellings and in some cases miscalculations.

* We are still on a Tessa Baby watch. Inside or Outside camera available for your (and my wife's) entertainment.

* Sloths do not fart; instead, they reabsorb and respire methane gas through their lungs.

* Here is a stunner for you: Back in 1967, MLK Jr. and Coretta Scott King covered the cost of Julia Roberts’ hospital birth. It turns out Roberts’ parents couldn’t afford the bill, and the Kings’ gesture was a heartfelt payback. Julia’s parents, who ran a theater school in Atlanta, welcomed the King children as students when they had trouble finding a place that would accept them because they were Black.

* Have a great day.

Monday

All good things must come to an end—but if you’ve got to wrap up the weekend, today’s a pretty exciting way to do it. Now it’s time to take our collective noses and press them firmly back onto the grindstone of life. Back to work, back to the hustle, back to doing our part to make this spinning rock a better place.

So the critters have decided to once again expand their mobile business of delivering newspapers, portable snow cones, and earwax removal by adding in a mobile homemade scented candle stand as well as being Tax Preparers (getting an early start), they keep on expanding their conglomerate. You have to give them credit, as they are finding new and creative ways to make income for bird seed and cat treats.

I'm still working 10s at Hope, no surprise there at all. I've been doing it since May, and it looks like it will carry on into 2027 unless something changes.

Tomorrow is Election Day, it's the mid term General Election, get out and do your civic duty. I'll be voting after work at St Mary's. I never miss elections and try to vote in all of them. It is the only time your voice really matters, don't silence it.

Have yourselves a great day.

Sunday

Here I sit in a semi-quiet household, Kiwi and Peanut are up and already dressed in their football attire for the day as they are getting ready to cheer on the Steelers playing the Cleveland Clowns, I mean Browns this afternoon. They have theor snacks, terrible towels and are ready to cheer on the Steelers at 1:00.

Yesterday went pretty well; Abby and Chris are now officially married, and the ceremony and reception afterwards. It was nice to get together with everyone for the wedding.

No big plans for us today other than a few chores and getting ready for another week of work. Maybe sit around and watch a little bit of football this afternoon with Kiwi and Peanut.

Have yourselves a great and special day.

Saturday Morning Ramblings

Here I sit once again in a semi-quiet household; Kiwi and Peanut are up and putting on their Halloween Costumes for trick-or-treating and making a sign for Abby's Wedding later this afternoon. They are taking real care in doing it, plus they wanted to dress up and and start trick or treating early, they want to start a new tradition where they ring doorbells in the early morning hours rather than at night.

Like I said Abby is getting married today, as if you couldn't already tell from Peanut and Kiwi's poster board. I get to be the picture taker guy, the memory catcher so to speak. A task I am honored to do my best at and try to make it memorable.

No Mountaineer game today, they are on a Bye week, meaning they have the weekend off before they address that last 1/3 of the schedule. Gives players time to heal up and recver, but we have stayed pretty healthy for the most part this year other than losing a Defensive Lineman early in the season.

Have yoursleves a great day.

Big Ole Hairy Friday

Yes, it is once again that time of the week that we all look forward to, when we can take time to cease the labors of the week and take a little bit of needed time out to enjoy the fruits of those labors. It is again the dawn of another weekend and a Big Ole Hairy Friday!!!!

Are you ready for a little bit of High School Football? Tonight is the night local High School Football fans circle on the calendar, the night the Mohigans and the Hawks meet up on the gridiron for the 2026 version of the MoHawk Bowl. Clay Battelle also plays tonight as they will be on the road at Madonna. Good luck to two of the three High School teams tonight. Which one am I leaving out of wishing good luck? Morgantown High Class of 82 here.

Big weekend planned for us; we will be attending Abby's (niece) wedding tomorrow at Dani and Roy's house, and I get to bring my camera in tow and grab some pictures for them. The reception (and maybe the wedding if the weather is bad) will be at the Firehall. So, big weekend planned.

Have yourselves a great day.

Photo Flashback Thursday

Once a week, I like to take a little bit of time out, time to look at some of the 30,000+ photos that I have stored on my computer. Little lost moments in time that I either captured with a lens, scanned, or just stole from somewhere on the internet. I like to find just one and post it up, recalling or reliving the picture to the best of my ability. Sometimes this is a pretty easy task, and sometimes it's not that easy, but one thing is that it has always been a lot of fun.

I'm not even going to attempt to guess the year of this picture or where it was even taken at. I'll say early top mid 70's based on Pam and Gary's age. I will guess judging by the couch covers and the icicles on the Christmas Tree that this was taken at Grandma Hall's house. That was her couch cover that she used and the icicles on the tree was something that she did every year, would you believe she re-used them every year.

I did see another photo recently that I had never seen before. Anyone want to guess who this is?

Need a hint?

Have yourselves a great day

πŸŽƒ The Great Halloween Costume Switcheroo and the Great Toilet Paper Caper! πŸ‘»

Well, hello there, everybody! It’s me, Lucy, your favorite tan-and-white Shih Tzu, reporting live from the Hall household, where Halloween fever has officially taken over! And let me tell you something, folks, when you put me, Peanut, Kiwi, the Quackers, Gracie, and the Ghost of Maybelline together with Halloween costumes, candy, and a suspiciously large supply of toilet paper, you’re just asking for trouble!

And BOY, did we deliver! πŸ˜‚

🎨 The Great Costume Workshop

The day started with everybody gathered around the kitchen table for our annual Halloween costume design meeting. Dad had barely finished his iced tea when Peanut, our gray tiger cat, walked in wearing a cardboard box painted to look like a giant can of tuna.

She called herself “The Incredible Tuna Woman.”

Honestly, Peanut, I think you could have come up with something a little more original, but she threatened to sit on my tail if I criticized her costume, so I kept my opinions to myself.

Kiwi, our green cheek conure, decided he wanted to be a mad scientist. He had a little white coat, tiny safety goggles, and a miniature clipboard. He kept shouting, “Eureka!” every time he figured out how to steal a piece of candy from the supply bowl.

The Quackers, our identical twin yellow ducks, decided to go as a pair of flying superheroes. They made capes out of old pillowcases and insisted on calling themselves The Mighty Quack Brothers.

Gracie, our black-and-white Shih Tzu visitor, designed a beautiful witch costume complete with a pointy hat and a broomstick. She spent twenty minutes practicing her evil laugh.

“BWAHAHAHA!”

It sounded more like a squeaky dog toy, but we applauded anyway.

As for me? I designed the most magnificent costume in Halloween history: Super Lucy, Defender of Treats! I had a red cape, a little superhero emblem, and a utility belt big enough to carry biscuits.

Then the Ghost of Maybelline floated through the wall wearing a glowing skeleton costume.

“Back in my day,” she announced, “we didn't need fancy costumes. We just ran around the neighborhood barking at mailmen!”

We all agreed that Maybelline had a point.

🍬 Trick-or-Treating: Round One!

As the sun went down, we loaded up our treat bags and headed out into the neighborhood.

I led the way, naturally. A superhero has to make sure everybody stays safe.

At the first house, a nice lady handed us dog biscuits, cat treats, and a handful of candy for the humans.

“Trick or treat!” we shouted.

Kiwi immediately added, “And don't forget the millet!”

At the next house, Peanut tried to convince the homeowner that tuna-flavored treats counted as Halloween candy. The Quackers performed a synchronized dance on the front porch, which earned them two extra handfuls of goodies.

Gracie was collecting treats so quickly that she had to borrow one of my spare bags.

Even the Ghost of Maybelline got something. The homeowner left a little bowl of treats outside for neighborhood pets, and Maybelline floated right through the porch railing to inspect it.

After an hour, our bags were full, our paws were tired, and Kiwi had eaten enough millet to power a small aircraft.

Naturally, we returned home for a snack break.

And that's when Peanut came up with her terrible idea.

😈 The Great Costume Switcheroo

“You know what would be funny?” Peanut asked, wearing the expression she usually gets right before something expensive breaks.

“What?” I asked suspiciously.

“We switch costumes and go trick-or-treating again!”

Now, I should have recognized the warning signs. But I am a dog of adventure, and my curiosity has gotten me into trouble more times than I care to admit.

So we switched!

  • Lucy put on Peanut's giant tuna-can costume. I looked like a walking seafood special.

  • Peanut squeezed into my Super Lucy cape and declared herself the Defender of the Fish Bowl.

  • Kiwi borrowed Gracie's witch hat and broomstick. He looked like a tiny feathered witch who had just been fired from a broomstick factory.

  • Gracie put on Kiwi's mad scientist coat and goggles. She immediately began calling herself Dr. Gracestein.

  • The Quackers swapped their superhero capes for my utility belt and Peanut's cardboard accessories. They became the world's first duck detectives.

  • The Ghost of Maybelline borrowed Kiwi's scientist clipboard and announced she was conducting paranormal research.

We looked absolutely ridiculous.

Which, of course, meant we were ready for Round Two.

🧻 The Midnight Mischief Patrol

Now, this is where things got interesting.

Kiwi had discovered a stash of toilet paper rolls, several cans of silly string, some rubber spiders, a few fake bugs, and a collection of harmless Halloween prank props.

He spread everything across the table like a criminal mastermind planning the biggest heist in Monongalia County history.

“Operation Halloween Hilarity is a GO!” he squawked.

Our plan was to surprise our friends with a second Halloween appearance, pull some silly pranks, and make everybody laugh.

We divided up the supplies.

The Quackers were assigned toilet paper duty. They decorated our backyard trees and bushes with streamers of toilet paper, creating what looked like a winter wonderland that had lost a fight with a paper factory.

Peanut carried the silly string. She accidentally sprayed herself in the whiskers while testing a can and spent the next five minutes trying to figure out why her face looked like a rainbow exploded.

I was responsible for the rubber spiders. I placed a few on our own porch decorations and then pretended to be terrified when I saw them.

Gracie carried the fake bugs and made a big show of discovering a giant plastic cockroach in her treat bag.

“AAAAAAAH!” she screamed.

Kiwi fell off his perch laughing.

The Ghost of Maybelline provided spooky sound effects, floating behind bushes and whispering, “Wooooooo! Give me your biscuits!”

We visited a few willing neighbors and friends who were in on the fun. With permission, we used silly string on outdoor decorations, draped toilet paper over our own trees, and staged a few goofy surprises.

We made sure to keep the mess away from people's property, cars, and walkways. After all, there is a difference between a good Halloween prank and having to explain yourself to an angry homeowner.

And let me tell you, the sight of a tuna can wearing a superhero cape, a witchy parrot, and two duck detectives marching down the sidewalk was enough to make even the grumpiest neighbor laugh.

One gentleman laughed so hard he nearly dropped his pumpkin bucket.

“Didn't I just see you guys earlier?” he asked.

“Nope!” Peanut replied, trying to sound innocent while wearing my superhero cape backward.

“We're a completely different group of suspicious characters!”

That was when Kiwi sprayed a little silly string into the air like a victory celebration.

πŸ† The Halloween Awards Ceremony

Back home, we held our official Halloween awards ceremony.

The winners were:

πŸ… Best Costume: Gracie as Dr. Gracestein.

πŸ… Most Convincing Superhero: Peanut, although she spent most of the evening trying to catch her own cape.

πŸ… Best Halloween Laugh: Kiwi, whose cackling could probably be heard clear over at the WVU Coliseum.

πŸ… Best Teamwork: The Mighty Quack Brothers, who managed to decorate the backyard without wrapping themselves in toilet paper.

πŸ… Best Ghostly Performance: The Ghost of Maybelline, naturally.

πŸ… Most Likely to Eat the Evidence: Yours truly, Super Lucy in a tuna can.

I would also like to point out that nobody was injured, no neighbors were permanently traumatized, and we cleaned up our decorations and prank supplies before bedtime.

Well, most of them.

Peanut is still trying to get silly string out of her whiskers.

πŸŒ™ Lucy's Final Thoughts

As the night wound down, we curled up together, exhausted from our adventures.

The Quackers were asleep in their capes. Gracie had removed her goggles and was snoring softly. Kiwi was dreaming about a laboratory filled with unlimited millet. Peanut was counting her treats, probably planning next year's costume already.

The Ghost of Maybelline floated near the fireplace, looking happier than I'd seen her in a long time.

And me? I was thinking about how much fun we had.

Halloween isn't really about having the fanciest costume or collecting the most candy. It's about imagination, friendship, laughter, and making memories with the people — and animals — who make life special.

Sometimes you have to be a superhero. Sometimes you have to be a mad scientist. And sometimes you have to be a giant tuna can with a dog inside it.

You just never know what life is going to throw at you.

But if you have good friends, a little imagination, and enough biscuits to go around, you can turn an ordinary Wednesday into an extraordinary adventure.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go check on Peanut. She's been staring at Dad's toilet paper supply for the last ten minutes, and that never means anything good.

Until next time, folks!

This is Lucy, signing off with a wag of the tail, a Halloween howl, and one final warning: Hide your biscuits, secure your toilet paper, and never trust a cat wearing a superhero cape!

πŸΎπŸŽƒπŸ‘» HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE WHOLE GANG! πŸ‘»πŸŽƒπŸΎ

P.S. Dad says next year we're all getting costumes that don't require cardboard, glue, or a trip to the hardware store. We have unanimously voted to ignore that suggestion.

So the critters have decided to once again expand their mobile business of delivering newspapers, portable snow cones, and earwax removal by adding in a mobile homemade scented candle stand as well. You have to give them credit, as they are finding new and creative ways to make income for bird seed and cat treats.

I'm still working 10s this week and will continue to do so for at least the rest of the year. Nothing new there really; Michelle has also been going in early (to make up time so she can go to Hayley's doctor appointments without having to use PTO time).

I did get a chance to talk to Hayley a little last week; she is excited to be in her third trimester, and I swear I should just give the mailman a key to bring the packages down and get himself a cup of coffee or something while we are at work. Funny thing is, when I was a kid, our mailman used to do that, then come in and sit down, but it was Dad's lifelong friend, Roger Powell.

Well we can't change the world sitting here so...

Sunday

Well, I guess today officially starts my weekend.....maybe, it could just be the middle of an extended workweek. Kiwi and Peanut are up arguing about the TV remote and who has control. They both have their own tastes.

Yeah, I ended up working part of the day yesterday; we're reviewing versions of some coding before we push it live next weekend, so it has been basically all hands on deck and don't be surprised if I work a few hours today as well. Next Saturday is Abby's wedding, so I will be busy next weekend taking pictures for her.

Michelle went back home yesterday, actually a little north to Elwood City for Jonny's Birthday. She seemed to have a great time, as I stayed home and watched the Mountaineers and entertained and fed our little entrepreneurial friends, the same ones arguing over the remote this morning.

Have yourselves a great day

Hi ho hi ho?

Saturday Morning Ramblings

Here I sit once again in a quiet household; Kiwi and Peanut are up early making a Happy Birthday Jon sign for Michelle to take with her today as she travels to Elwood City for Jon's Birthday Party this afternoon. They are such a creative pair.

Michelle will be heading north later this morning for Jon's Birthday party. I'm going to hold down the fort with my feline and aviary friend and watch a little bit of this game called football on the television. I'll probably spend most of the day screaming and yelling at the TV as the Mountaineers are on the road today against TCU at noon. Hopefully the Mountaineers can play a good game, but I already said I would be yelling at the TV so draw your own conclusion based on that.

So what else do we get into while Michelle is away? Not too much of anything really, I may try a final cut for the year, but that all depends on the weather and if I am motivated to cut it one last time. We're a few weeks from moving the clocks back an hour and the grass really isn't that long (I sound motivated, can't you tell) so we shall see.

Have yourselves a great day; make it a memorable one.

Morgantown High is on the road in Pennsylvania, playing Baldwin. University is at home hosting Preston, and Clay Battelle is at home hosting Bridgeport, Ohio, this evening out in Blacksville. Good luck to all three teams this evening; bring it home.

No big plans for us this weekend other than what we usually do. Our lives are pretty repetitive to be honest: grocery shopping and chores around the house as we relax and prepare for another week starting on Monday. Fun fun fun.

Have yoursleves a great day

Photo Flashback Thursday

Once a week, I like to take a little bit of time out, time to look at some of the 30,000+ photos that I have stored on my computer. Little lost moments in time that I either captured with a lens, scanned, or just stole from somewhere on the internet. I like to find just one and post it up, recalling or reliving the picture to the best of my ability. Sometimes this is a pretty easy task, and sometimes it's not that easy, but one thing is that it has always been a lot of fun.

This week's pic was taken a couple of weeks ago now, when Daniel came in from Kentucky to visit everyone. Everyone was ecstatic to see him, to say the least. It was a great two day visit, the first day down at Terri's, and the second day we did brunch at Eat N Park.

He headed back to Kentucky that Sunday evening and said he would like to try to make another trip up here before Christmas. His fiancΓ©e Kelly was awesome and is already one of us.

Have yourselves a great day

Lucy's Journal

Well, folks, gather around because today was a day for the history books! And possibly a day for the veterinarian, the groundskeeper, and the local authorities to have a long meeting.

It all started this morning when I, Lucy, a very sophisticated tan-and-white Shih Tzu with a nose for adventure and a strong opinion about snack distribution, discovered that the Animal Kingdom was holding its very own World Series of Baseball!

Now, I know what you're thinking. Lucy, how on earth did you get involved in a major sporting event?

Simple. I heard the words baseball, hot dogs, and unlimited snacks.

I was already halfway out the door before Dad finished his coffee.

🐢 The Team Assembles

Our team consisted of yours truly as team captain, Peanut the gray tiger cat as our star slugger, Kiwi the green cheek conure as our play-by-play announcer, and the Quackers twins as our pitching and catching duo.

Gracie, our black-and-white Shih Tzu friend, arrived wearing a baseball jersey two sizes too big and carrying a bag of sunflower seeds.

Then, just as we were discussing our batting order, a cold breeze swept across the yard.

Whoooooooosh!

Out floated the Ghost of Maybelline, our beloved brownish pit bull ghost, wearing a transparent baseball cap and carrying a glowing baseball bat.

"BOOOOOOO!" she howled.

Kiwi nearly fell off his perch.

"GOOD GRIEF! CAN WE GET A WARNING BEFORE THE STADIUM SPECIAL EFFECTS START?"

Maybelline grinned. "Sorry, Kiwi. I was going for a dramatic entrance."

Peanut examined her clipboard. "Well, you're late for practice."

"I'm a ghost," Maybelline replied. "I don't have a watch."

Peanut sighed. "This is going to be a long day."

And she was absolutely right.

🦫 Meet the Montana Beaver Bombers!

Our opponents were the mighty Montana Beaver Bombers, a fearsome crew of beavers who had traveled all the way from Montana to compete for the Animal World Series championship.

They arrived in a convoy of tiny wagons loaded with baseball bats, lumber, and enough wood chips to build a small apartment complex.

Their captain, a massive beaver named Buck, stepped onto the field and announced, "We've come all this way to win the championship!"

One of his teammates immediately began chewing on second base.

Buck turned around. "BILL! THAT'S NOT A TREE!"

Bill stopped chewing, looked at the base, and shrugged.

"Well, it looked wooden."

Kiwi flew over to the announcer's booth.

"LADIES AND GENTLECRITTERS! WELCOME TO THE WORLD SERIES! TODAY'S GAME FEATURES THE HOME TEAM, THE WEST VIRGINIA WILD PAWS, AGAINST THE MONTANA BEAVER BOMBERS! THE ODDSMAKERS FAVOR THE BEAVERS BECAUSE THEY HAVE EXPERIENCE BUILDING THINGS UNDER PRESSURE!"

Peanut whispered, "I thought the odds favored us."

Kiwi replied, "They did until I saw the size of their teeth."

⚾ The First Inning: A Quacking Disaster

The game began with Quacker Number One on the mound.

He wound up, flapped both wings, and threw the ball.

Unfortunately, he also threw his hat.

The hat landed on the batter's head.

The batter was so confused that he dropped his bat, sat down, and demanded to speak to the umpire.

The umpire was a very serious-looking owl.

"STRIKE ONE!" the owl hooted.

"But I didn't swing!" protested the beaver.

"Strike two for arguing!"

"That's not fair!"

"STRIKE THREE!"

The owl pointed toward the dugout.

Kiwi nearly fell out of the announcer's booth laughing.

"AND THAT'S OUR FIRST OUT! THE BEAVERS HAVE BEEN DEFEATED BY THE MOST DANGEROUS WEAPON IN BASEBALL: QUESTIONABLE UMPIRE LOGIC!"

Meanwhile, Quacker Number Two was celebrating by waddling in circles around home plate.

We hadn't even made it through the first inning, and already our team was a complete circus.

Naturally, I was proud.

🐱 Peanut's Big Moment

By the third inning, the Beavers were leading 3–1.

Our manager, who happened to be me, called a team meeting.

"Okay, everyone. We need a strategy."

Peanut raised her paw.

"Simple. We hit the ball, run around the bases, and don't eat the equipment."

Everyone looked at the Quackers twins.

They suddenly became very interested in a patch of grass.

Peanut stepped up to the plate.

Buck wound up and threw a fastball.

Peanut narrowed her eyes.

The ball came screaming toward home plate.

CRACK!

Peanut hit that ball so hard it sailed over center field, over the outfield fence, over the parking lot, and landed in a Montana Beaver Bombers merchandise tent.

The ball knocked over a display of miniature wooden bats.

A beaver selling souvenirs stared at the wreckage.

"Well," he muttered, "at least the bats are selling."

Peanut trotted around the bases with her tail held high.

"HOME RUN!" Kiwi screamed. "PEANUT HAS JUST SENT THAT BASEBALL INTO A DIFFERENT ZIP CODE!"

The score was now 3–2.

Peanut returned to the dugout and calmly began washing her paws.

I asked, "Aren't you excited?"

She replied, "Of course. But excitement is no excuse for poor hygiene."

I swear that cat was born eighty years old.

πŸ‘» Maybelline's Ghostly Home-Field Advantage

By the sixth inning, the Beavers had extended their lead to 5–2.

Things were looking grim.

Gracie was pacing in the dugout. The Quackers twins were arguing over who got to keep the game ball. Kiwi was threatening to resign as announcer and become a professional popcorn critic.

Then Maybelline floated toward the pitcher's mound.

"Don't worry, kids," she said. "I've got a plan."

She drifted directly through the Beavers' dugout wall.

A moment later, she emerged wearing Buck's baseball cap.

Buck stared at her.

"HEY! GIVE THAT BACK!"

Maybelline grinned and floated straight through him.

Buck spun around three times, dropped his glove, and shouted, "THEY'VE GOT A GHOST! WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL US THE HOME TEAM HAD A GHOST?"

Kiwi grabbed the microphone.

"BREAKING NEWS! MONTANA HAS DISCOVERED THAT WEST VIRGINIA HAS A SECRET WEAPON! SHE DOESN'T NEED A TICKET, SHE DOESN'T NEED A BATHROOM BREAK, AND SHE CAN PASS THROUGH THE WALLS OF THE VISITING LOCKER ROOM!"

The owl umpire blew his whistle.

"INTERFERENCE!"

Maybelline floated back to the dugout.

"What? I didn't touch anybody!"

The umpire consulted the rulebook.

After a long discussion, he ruled that ghosts were technically allowed on the field, provided they did not possess the baseball or scare the concession stand employees.

Maybelline looked disappointed.

"I was really hoping to possess the nacho machine."

πŸ¦† The Quackers Twins Pull Off a Miracle

The bottom of the eighth inning arrived, and we were trailing 5–4.

There were two outs, and the Quackers twins were up to bat.

Now, if you've ever watched two identical ducks try to do anything together, you know the phrase organized chaos doesn't even begin to cover it.

Quacker Number One stepped up to the plate.

He swung.

Missed.

"STRIKE ONE!"

He swung again.

Missed.

"STRIKE TWO!"

The Montana pitcher smirked.

Quacker Number One leaned toward his twin.

"Remember the secret plan?"

Quacker Number Two nodded.

They switched places.

The pitcher threw the ball.

Quacker Number Two swung with all his might.

BONK!

The ball bounced off his helmet, shot straight into the air, and landed in the pitcher's glove.

The pitcher laughed.

Then he realized the ball was stuck inside the duck's helmet.

The owl umpire called, "DEAD BALL!"

While the Beavers argued with the umpire, the twins waddled around the bases.

"WAIT A MINUTE!" Buck shouted. "THEY CAN'T DO THAT!"

Peanut checked the rulebook.

"Actually, they can. The ball was dead, but nobody said the ducks were."

The umpire thought about this for a moment.

Then he shrugged.

"SAFE!"

The twins tied the game 5–5.

Kiwi was practically vibrating with excitement.

"THE QUACKERS HAVE DONE IT! THEY HAVE DISCOVERED A BRAND-NEW BASEBALL STRATEGY! CONFUSE EVERYONE UNTIL THEY GIVE YOU A RUN!"

Gracie was jumping up and down.

I was barking so loudly that three squirrels in the next county filed a noise complaint.

🐾 The Bottom of the Ninth: Lucy Saves the Day!

And now we arrive at the bottom of the ninth inning.

The score was tied 5–5.

Two outs.

Peanut was on second base.

Gracie was on first.

And I, Lucy, was stepping up to the plate.

The entire stadium went silent.

Even the Beavers stopped chewing on things.

Buck looked at his pitcher and said, "Just throw a slow one. She's a little dog."

I heard him.

I am a little dog.

But I am also a Shih Tzu with championship aspirations and a very serious appetite.

The pitcher wound up.

He threw the ball.

I swung.

CRACK!

The ball shot straight down the third-base line.

I took off running.

My little legs were moving so fast that my ears were flapping like helicopter blades.

First base!

Second base!

Peanut rounded third!

Gracie was right behind her!

The Beavers scrambled after the ball, but their outfielder accidentally threw it into the wood-chip pile they had brought for emergencies.

Three beavers immediately dove in after it.

One came out holding a baseball bat.

Another came out holding a sandwich.

The third came out holding a confused-looking squirrel.

"WHERE'S THE BALL?" Buck screamed.

Nobody knew.

Meanwhile, Peanut crossed home plate.

Gracie crossed home plate.

And I came charging around third base with the determination of a dog who had just heard the treat jar open.

The catcher stood waiting.

I slid.

Well, technically, I tripped over my own paws, rolled across home plate, and landed in a cloud of dust.

But the umpire raised both arms.

"SAFE! GAME OVER! WEST VIRGINIA WINS!"

THE WEST VIRGINIA WILD PAWS HAD WON THE ANIMAL WORLD SERIES!

Final score: West Virginia Wild Paws 6, Montana Beaver Bombers 5.

πŸ† The Championship Celebration

Pandemonium broke out.

The Quackers twins were flapping their wings so hard that the championship banner blew off the scoreboard.

Kiwi flew around the stadium yelling, "WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE! SOMEBODY GET ME A PRESS CONFERENCE AND A BAG OF CHIPS!"

Peanut accepted the championship trophy, inspected it carefully, and announced that it would make an excellent place to nap.

Gracie was busy taking selfies with the trophy.

Maybelline floated through the celebration, making ghostly paw prints in the confetti.

And I, Lucy, was presented with the World Series MVP award.

The trophy was almost as big as I was.

I stood proudly beside it until I noticed the snack table.

There were hot dogs.

There were hamburgers.

There were biscuits.

There was even a giant bowl of popcorn.

I looked at the trophy.

Then I looked at the food.

Then I looked back at the trophy.

"Somebody hold this," I announced. "I've got more important business to attend to."

Peanut shook her head.

"Captain, you can't abandon your trophy."

"I can if there's a hot dog involved."

The Montana Beavers were surprisingly gracious in defeat. Buck shook my paw and congratulated us.

"Well played, Lucy. You earned that win."

Then he leaned closer and whispered, "Do you think we could borrow your ghost for next season?"

Maybelline grinned.

"Only if you have a really good snack budget."

Buck nodded solemnly.

"We can build you a snack cabinet."

Maybelline immediately signed the contract.

Apparently, we may have lost our ghost to Montana's free-snack program.

We'll investigate that tomorrow.

πŸŒ™ A Champion's Reflection

As the sun set over our little corner of West Virginia, we brought the trophy home and placed it in the living room.

Kiwi was already planning a championship parade.

Peanut was already planning where to hide the trophy so nobody would disturb her naps.

The Quackers twins were already arguing about which one of them had actually won the game.

Gracie was already asking whether there would be a championship rematch.

And Maybelline was floating near the ceiling, humming the national anthem backward just to annoy everyone.

I curled up in my favorite blanket, exhausted but happy.

Today taught me something important.

It doesn't matter if you're a tiny Shih Tzu, a cat with an attitude, a couple of confused ducks, a colorful bird with a loud microphone, or even a ghost with questionable sportsmanship.

When you work together, believe in each other, and occasionally benefit from an opponent losing the baseball in a pile of wood chips, anything is possible.

Especially a championship.

And remember, dear diary:

The road to victory may be long, but the road to the snack table should always be short.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a trophy to admire, a hot dog to finish, and a championship parade to organize.

Tomorrow, we're demanding a spot in the Major Leagues.

I hear the Yankees have excellent catering.

Until next time,

Lucy 🐾

World Series MVP, Captain of the West Virginia Wild Paws, and undefeated champion of the snack table.

Kiwi and Peanut are once again expanding their paper route / portable snow cones and now adding a mobile earwax removal station. It's Kiwi's innovative marketing: a newspaper, a snow cone, and having your earwax removed all while you wait. I have no idea where he comes up with such brilliant business plans, but he is determined.

Still working 10s again this week, yeah, what else is new. We are actually losing one of our GIS people in Parkersburg, so that is going to have us a person down but that's OK. She's getting a job in what her degree is in, so I wish her the best.

Nothing else planned for me this week out of the ordinary; Michelle is pretty much the same. I know we do need to make an effort to get together with Mom and update a few things in the near future.

Have yourselves a great day.

Sunday

Here I sit on a warm and quiet Sunday Morning. Kiwi and Peanut got frustrated yesterday watching the Mountaineers play and decided to go out and bring the window air conditioner in for the winter since it was a freeze warning last night and all week. They both said they wanted to remain warm inside the house, and they did their part. I was going to do the final mow of the year yesterday, but the ground is still a little wet, and the trees still have leaves on them.

So what is on today's agenda? Kiwi and Peanut are thinking og expanding their business plan and have been hard at work getting ready to put that plan into action.

I have to say, if you see Michelle today, take a little bit of time out and congratulate her. She is at 5 years since she stopped drinking; I got her a five-year coin last week (as well as an unspillable coffee cup) to commemorate this accomplishment. I can't express how proud I am of her, she is an absolutely amazing woman. I love her with all my heart, to say the very least.

The Steelers play this afternoon at 1:00 and are on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hopefully they can limp through this one and stay in the race for the divisional title and a chance at the playoffs.

Have yourselves a great day.

Saturday Morning Ramblings

Here I sit on a quiet Saturday Morning. Kiwi and Peanut are planning on watching College Gameday this morning; they figure we're well into October and the weather is cooling down, so they are going to relax.

Michelle is going to beat the game day traffic and go grocery shopping before the crowd comes into town for the noon kickoff. I'm not sure what my plans are for the day just yet. I want to cut grass once more, but that is more the mulch the leaves that will be falling mainly.

Michelle will probably be streaming the Cincinnati Zoo's Giraffe cams; there is an indoor one and an outdoor one that are streaming since Tessa is about to pop out a little one in the very near future. So you know where Michelle's attention is going to be until we have a baby giraffe.

Have yourselves a great day, make it a memorable one.
