Big Ole Hairy Friday

Yes it is once again that time of the week that we all look foreword to, when we can take time to cease the labors for the week and take a little bit of needed time out to enjoy the fruits of those labors. It is once again the dawn of another weekend, and a Big Ole Hairy Friday!

Well if you are looking for a little bit of cheap, and by cheap I mean free entertainment tonight, BOPARC will be showing the movie Dolphin Tale 2 at Jock Roberts Park. This is a great family movie if you have not seen it yet.

We had another episode with Michelle Wednesday Night where we had to call an ambulance to take her to the Emergency Room. Same symptoms as before but not as intense and a different diagnosis. She remembers everything this time and has no memory losses and and seemed to snap out of it much quicker. The diagnosis this time however was Complex Migraine but I'm not so sure how confident I am in that diagnosis.

Our weekend plans if at all possible will be traveling tomorrow to Michelle's Sister's home in Beaver for her niece Abby's Birthday/Graduation Party tomorrow afternoon. Michelle's health permitting of course but I think we will make it.

Have a Great Day

A Busy Couple of Days and a Big Scare

Thursday Night me and my wonderful wife had just finished watching Orange is the New Black's final episode of the season. We were just winding down for a few minutes and playing a game or two before going to bed.

It was at this point that I had thought my life had changed forever with a tragedy. I look back and she is leaning on her chair towards me talking some garble and incoherent language. Sitting at my computer I instantly knew things were not OK, so I threw off my headphones and glasses and started to walk towards her to check on her.

It took about 3 seconds to realize something was not right, her face was drooping, her motor skills were greatly diminished and she was slurring anything and everything she said very badly. I'm thinking she was having a stroke, my first phone call was to her Sister Chris who was teaching Vacation Bible School at her Church on the Mileground but there was no answer. Her phone was somewhere else and turned down because she was teaching. At that moment she felt a panic that she needed to check her phone and returned my phone call without listening to the voice mail I sent her inquiring what I needed.

I told her I thought Michelle was having a stroke and knowing a stroke victim has a small window to overturn any effects of a stroke she immediately instructed me to call an ambulance, so I immediately hung up with her and called 911.

From the time I had first called Chris until BOTH Jim and Chris AND the Ambulance arrived from the Mileground was literally about 4 minutes. They pulled in First as Jim is a Former EMT here in Morgantown and probably would have won any race against the best NASCAR driver to get here ahead of them, I'm still in amazement of how quick both Jim and Chris as well as the Ambulance got here.

We loaded her up on the gurney and took her to the Emergency Room, thinking we only had a 60 minute window to administer the medications necessary to offset a strokes affects. Being she was coming in by ambulance and it was a Trauma, we got priority like and was seen by a team of experts in a matter of a few minutes.

Within that first 60 minutes, the Ambulance arrived, she was transported, seen, giving a CT Scan and EKG and an assessment by the Neurologist in about a total of 45 minutes.

In the Emergency Room her speech returned slightly, she was coherently having conversations with everyone and appeared to be snapping out of it, but still with greatly diminished motor skills and speech.

After a few hours there they decided to admit her and administer an MRI, I run home home to get things she asked me to get and Chris, Jim, Amanda, Chad, Laiah, Hayley and Josh all waiting with her to go upstairs.

Before I left, Jim walked in and asked if he could pray for her, well the obvious answer was yes and he did so.

I run home and grab a few things and returned her Dad's text message with a Phone call. I told him she has made a tremendous comeback from earlier in the night, but exhaustion made her appear that she was she was dropping back into it.

I gather her stuff, run back to the hospital as she is now in a room and I go up to her room and get the absolute joyous surprise of my life as she had appeared to completely slip out of it. Her speech was back to 100% and no slurring, her greatly diminished motor skills had returned and she had no idea where she was or how she got there. I walk into the room and I saw a puzzled look on her face as if she did not know who I was, but fortunately that puzzled look was how did I get here and what happened.

Relieved on my part is an extreme understatement. We got her settled down and everyone left once they felt she was going to be OK which was around 1:00 AM or so. I think I left around 1:30 to return home and give her a small chance to rest as she was exhausted.

They got her up around 4:00 or so (same time I woke up after about 2 hours of sleep, but I rolled back over for another hour and a half) to give her her MRI.

I returned to the Hospital about 6:30 after talking to her and picking up some breakfast that she wanted.

When I walk into the room, she had little to no recollection of the night before. She does not remember talking to her Dad on the phone (after she went back to her room), but she remembers talking to my Brother on the Phone. She remembers Chad being there, but not Hayley. She remembers her niece (Dr) Amanda being there, but not Jim or Chris.

Obviously this scared her a little, she had lost a number of hours from her life and only slightly recalled it.

Her Sister Chris also joined me at the hospital and they administered and EEG about 9:30 or so. After that the Doctor came in and spoke with us, she scored a 0 on the Stroke test, the CT Scan and EKG looked fine, the MRI showed no problems and they were just waiting on the EEG results to make a final diagnosis.

Everything came back fine, they think it was something called Transient Global Amnesia (TGA), but they could not rule out a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) and determined she was at no health risk any longer and released her.

She has no trouble remembering anything from yesterday and we even went out to dinner yesterday evening and went to Sam's to do our grocery for the week before returning home. It was as if nothing happened, she just lost a few hours of her life that she can't remember anything from that particular time frame. I am thankful to say the absolute minimum and would like to thank everyone who was asking about her and concerned for her, the list would be too numerous to name, just know we are thankful for each and every one of you and the roles you played in conveying messages to others and taking that burden off of us so we could concentrate on her well being.

I can't express the comfort and relief in knowing my wife, my best friend and my soulmate is going to be OK.

The Search Has Began Again

Years ago, the day I passed my drivers test, my father dropped yet another bombshell on me. I had knew my Sister and Brother Pam and Gary since birth as I was around for both of those births. When I was around 8 years old I met my sister Terri for the first time and when I was around 13 I met my sister Kim for the first time. Strange growing up not not knowing your siblings, but it was par for the course for me. When I passed my drivers test my dad dropped one final bombshell on me, I had an older brother.

He is supposed to be about two years older than me, that would make him about 53 (or 23 depending if you believe my lie) and my Dad never wanted to reveal any information about this individual. Any time we started to look for them, he got very defensive for what ever reason. I respected his wishes and never started to search until after he passed away in 1999.

My Mom provided me a few tidbits of information like who the mother was, but all searches lead to a dead end. The name she had given me was a Carol Ann Pava, whose grandfather was a barber here in Morgantown.

We used Facebook to try to track down the information yesterday and have gotten some amazing information to assist us further on our search. Seems Carol moved to California in the early 60's and finished up High School there. The picture you see is her Sr Class Portrait from her yearbook. Thanks to my wonderful wife Michelle for signing up for an account that provided me this information. I posted the pic on Facebook and had it confirmed that this was her.

A poster named Sondra Nicholas is absolutely amazing and took that little bit of information and ran with it giving us all kinds of information to follow up on.

We have not found the sibling as of yet, but a big thank you to the people of the group Growing up in Morgantown for possibly pointing us down the path to complete our journey.

Have a great day.

Tuesday's Tidbits

* Well that dreaded day of the week that we hate so much is now behind us yet once again. It's time to start looking ahead to a Tuesday and you know what that means. Time for a Tidbits.

* 18,699. That is how many days that yours truly has been alive and kicking on this earth. I feel more and more blessed with each passing day.

* It has been 3,922 days since I made my walk at West Virginia University and earned my Degree in Geography. It's been going on 11 years and it just seems like yesterday.

* 2,523 days ago, on a Saturday evening, I took a young recently widows young lady with two kids our for a night on the town. It was dinner and a movie and her first date since her husband had passed two years earlier.

* 1,747 days ago at around 4:00 in the morning, I took this wonderful young lady out in the back yard and got down on one knee and proposed marriage.

* It was 1,285 days ago that we got in front of our closest family and friends and exchanged our marital vows at the Marilla Center.

* I have around 6,138 days to go until I retire, give or take a few hundred here or there.

* 324 more days left in this year, meaning that I have 324 more days of content to write before my Goodbye 2015 Blog posts.

* There are 318 more shopping days left to go until Christmas.

* I'm 294 days away from celebrating yet another birthday.

* 177 days away from celebrating my fourth wedding anniversary with my wonderful wife.

* We are only 96 days away from Brittany's Graduation from West Virginia University.

* There are only 38 more day to go until Spring. I'm starting to hear birds a singing and trees getting ready to start budding. I have a feeling this is going to be an early Spring, but I always think that and have been wrong before.

* This is my 3,953rd blog that I have written for Georges Journal since I first started writing it a little over a decade ago.

* The Hall Family Website is up and running, there has been a whole lot of progress made during this season of the weather season. I still have a long way to go.

* The 2014 family picnic was such a success that we're going to do it again. A lot of the prime dates that I wanted were already booked and paid for, so I had to act fast. This years 2015 Picnic will be on June 28th at Krepps Park once again. We have the big pavilion once again as we did last year, so this is the hard date some rain or come shine. BTW, there are only 138 days until that event =)

* We need to come up with some creative or craft ideas for the picnic, any creative people have any ideas? Maybe something to honor those who are no longer with us.

* No rumors yet for a 2015 date for Jimmy Buffett to appear in Pittsburgh, it is getting to that time of the year when I really need to be paying attention for an announcement.

* Waiting on planning to see if we are going to take a cruise in 2015, I would normally be booking and paying for it now however our work contract is up in May and I have to wait to see if I am still with the same company or will have to start working for someone else, hopefully here doing the same job. I hope I can hear something soon so we can start planning or make alternative plans.

* My Brother and Sister in Law Jim and Chris are hosting a dinner and a Family Movie Night this Friday at the Cassville Firehall. Admission is free and dinner is at 5:00 with the movie starting at 6:00. If you are looking for a good cheap time with some great people, I highly recommend this event.

* Have a great day

Sunday Morning

Here I sit, yet once again going on just a couple of hours of sleep. I was the last one to lose my battle with the dreaded Sandman last night and the first one to recover from that losing battle last night. I'm up early once again and I'm getting an early start converting old family VHS tapes to digital format.

Me and Gary found all of the old family VHS tapes last night and I bought a converter last night and am converting many of the old tapes to digital format, including my Brother Gary and his band winning the Preston County Buckwheat Festival Battle of the Bands, which I have attached at the end of this post. So far I have 4 tapes converted, the one posted, an hour and a half tape (not all of interest) of Christmas 1988, Brittany's first Birthday party at Dad's, Valarie's Little Miss Pageant from 1989 Val and Her best friend Heather were back to back contestants.

I've still got some more converting to do today, hence why I am up bright and early. I'm quite excited to be able to capture, convert, store and share so many old family memories from over 30 years ago that my Dad captured with his VHS camera.

Merry Christmas

It's that special time of the year, a time when families get together and spend time together creating memories and, having a feast and just enjoying being around the people that you love and that love you the most.

It's the one time when this world shuts down and all the hatred is forgotten for one short day. It's why people tale vacation and travel home and it is a time for family.

Last night we went to my Sister Terri's house and I have to say that was one of the better Christmas Eve's that I have had outside of the monstrous extravaganza my dad used to put on and Jean kept it going for a few years after he passed.

The evening included a Chinese Gift Exchange that turned out to be a lot of fun, a visit from Santa Claus himself and plenty of great food including out Hot Sausage and Nick's remarkable Prime Rib. A very big thank you to Terri for not only hosting, but making this an exciting Christmas Eve. I want to do another video of the pictures I have taken, I'm still debating on the music to use.

I'm sitting here watching 24 hours of a Christmas Story, hoping Ralphie doesn't shoot his eye out. I love this Christmas classic, I DVR'd it once again since our last DVR went kaput so I can have it all year. I'll probably end up watching it 3-4 times today.

Today the individual family units come into play for everyone. Michelle and I as well as the kids will be heading over to Michelle's sisters for the Morgantown version of the family Christmas. Chris and Jim, Michelle's sister and Brother in Law, are great hosts and it is always very memorable. Her Mom makes the trip down from Pittsburgh and we once again are fortunate to spend Christmas with a house full of people that we love so much.

As I noted, I want to do another Christmas video for last night, it's been a number of years since I have done one. I used to use the default Windows Movie maker, but since I've done my last one there has been all kinds of better software to do them with, but I'm not familiar with them and I don't care to try to assemble something on Chad's iPad.

From my family to yours, have a safe and Merry Christmas.
