Monday

All good things must come to an end—but if you’ve got to wrap up the weekend, today’s a pretty exciting way to do it. Now it’s time to take our collective noses and press them firmly back onto the grindstone of life. Back to work, back to the hustle, back to doing our part to make this spinning rock a better place.

Kiwi and Peanut I think have decided to retire from the lumberjack profession, cutting up that big tree that fell in the back yard this weekend and stacking it up as firewood really wore them out. Thanks once again to my brother in law Roy and his son Andy for helping out with such a big and daunting task over the weekend. It was a really big tree and it was unexpected.

So back to the grindstone for me today after a short weekend. Tomorrow is my official 1 year Parsons Anniversary, although other than some sexual harassment training last week I really haven't worked for them since June. With the Government shutdown looming after tomorrow, I don't see anything in the near future but with the way things are going geo-politically, I may be busy in the very near future. In the meantime Hope Gas is keeping me busy and I really enjoy working there and with the people I am working with.

My printer kind of ran out of ink yesterday, just when I needed it. I had 2 sets of print heads for it, one was too old and one was dried up. So with no spare ink, what did I do? Bought a better printer. It was between this one and one with an ink well, so I chose this one with a subscription for fresh ink delivered to my door every month for like $5 a month (so I can print 50 pages).

Have yourselves a great day.

Sunday

Here I sit in a quiet household, we had a busy day yesterday to say the least. Michelle left me a note on my computer yesterday saying that a big tree had fallen in the back yard. Kiwi and Peanut were on it.

Yes, Kiwi and Peanut grabbed my battery-powered v20 Craftsman Chainsaw and tried to start cutting up the fallen tree, but alas, it was not the tool for this large of a job. So Michelle asked her sister Dani to borrow her chainsaw, and my brother-in-law Roy was cutting grass and volunteered to bring he and Andy over, and he would cut it up. Roy ran his gas-powered chainsaw and did a number on that big Oak Tree, and between he and Andy, they cut it up and helped load it. Michelle and I brought the lawn tractor out with the dump trailer and she drove it back and forth and I assisted her in unloading and stacking that now quality firewood that we have stacked up in a couple of places. It's already dried out and ready to burn, believe it or not, and should burn long and hot this winter.

Thank you to Roy, Dani, Andy, Michelle, Kiwi and Peanut who all hand in helping out yesterday in the rain. It's all cut up and stacked and we are good to go. Don't need to order a load of wood this year, and the wood should burn well.

I have a few things to do today, I have to change the headlights in my car. The drivers side low beam is out and when I change one I usually change both as one burns out the other is not far behind it.

Have yoursleves a great day, make some memories.

Saturday Morning Ramblings

Here I sit in a quiet household, Peanut, Kiwi and I are up early talking about the day and what it may bring. They want to both watch the WVU game this afternoon at 3:30. The game is here so expect a large inflow of traffic today as it should be a decent-sized crowd today.

Me, I'll be here at home and have no plans on running around at all. Michelle did all of the shopping yesterday so we are good to go as far as having anything to do. That way I don't have to fight through all the traffic and can sit and relax all day until game time, which is probably not going to make me happy with so many key players hurt or out for the game.

A couple notes for the week, Moke needs hits to make up the revnue he spent making his album Crown of Scars.  It's pretty deep and it's all his original music in chronological order of his life as he tells it. I spoke to him and he has been working on this for a while and "accidentally" published it and now he is trying to recover the costs. It's actually pretty impressive, give it a listen or 2 or 3 times.

Big announcement, Michelle has been laid off from Davis Kitchen since August 15th, her and a few others were laid off and she had to start looking for jobs. Thursday she interviewed and was offered a position with Swanson Industries at their facility in Mount Morris. She came out of the interview feeling pretty confident that she got it and low and behold, she found out Thursday that she starts on October 6th, meaning she has next week off and then it's back to the grind. Swanson has a facility on rt 73, near where Nick and Terri's bar was located, but she will be in Mount Morris. Congratulations Michelle, I know I am very proud of you. So is Kiwi, but Peanut not so much since you will no longer be at her beck and call

Have yourselves a great day.

Big Ole Hairy Friday

Yes, it is once again that time of the week that we all look forward to when we can take time to cease the labors for the week and take a little bit of needed time out to enjoy the fruits of those labors. It is again the dawn of another weekend and a Big Ole Hairy Friday!!!

Are you looking for a little bit of High School Football action? The Morgantown Mohigans will be playing at home and will play host to Spring Mills this evening. University High will also be at home playing host to Fairmont Sr out on Bakers Ridge. Clay Battelle will be on the road this week when they travel to Gilmer County. Once again good luck to the three local teams this evening and I hope everyone closes the night out with a win.

The Mountaineers will be at home tomorrow for a Conference game against Utah. I'm kind of excited for this game, this will be the first time that we will have played them as members sof the Big XII and the first time we will not play against them in a bowl game. They own the series 2-0, but let's see if we can change that tomorrow.

Have yourselves a great day.

Photo Flashback Thursday

Once a week, I like to take a little bit of time out, time to look at some of the 30,000+ photos that I have stored on my computer. Little lost moments in time that I either captured with a lens, scanned, or just stole from somewhere on the internet. I like to find just one and post it up, recalling or reliving the picture to the best of my ability. Sometimes this is a pretty easy task, and sometimes it's not that easy, but one thing it has always been a lot of fun.

This weeks pic is one that I am honored to be a part of. He was bringing his Girlfriend Lifang to Morgantown for the first time for the game. We had worked out that I would be at Coopers Rock to catch the proposal as a spectator like someone who was just there. Before they walked across the bridge she turned around and got a picture of the view, with Michelle and I in the background pretending to photograph something.

This is that picture. Long story short, she said yes and we won. What a day for Gregg.

Have yourselves a great day, make some memories on your own.

Lucy's Journal

Lucy’s Journal – “Bowling Night with the Crew”

Dear Journal,

It’s Lucy again — white and tan Shih Tzu, professional snack hunter, and keeper of the team’s most important notes. Tonight was one for the books.

Kiwi (my green-cheek conure cousin) told me earlier, “Lucy, we need a team celebration. Something classy, something with flashing lights and greasy food.” And just like that, the plan was hatched: bowling night at Suburban Lanes.

We all met in the parking lot. Peanut, my tiger-striped cat cousin, strutted up first. He was still bragging about how he tackled that Pitt fan’s nacho plate during the big game. The Quackers, Amy’s twin ducks, waddled in behind him like a little feathery mafia, quacking in perfect rhythm. Kiwi circled above before landing right on top of the “Cosmic Bowling Tonight!” sign.

Inside, it was like stepping into another world — black lights, neon bowling balls, and the smell of nachos. Perfect.

We grabbed Lane 7. Peanut insisted on being team captain, even though he doesn’t have thumbs. Kiwi perched on the ball return like a coach, yelling tips: “Keep it straight! More spin! Don’t drop it on your paw!” The Quackers waddled up together, somehow managing to push one ball down the lane in unison. It rolled so slow we all thought it would stop halfway — but wouldn’t you know it, STRIKE! The ducks quacked so loud the whole alley turned to look.

When it was my turn, I used the bumpers (don’t judge me). I gave the ball a strong Shih Tzu shove and barked at it all the way down. Boom — 7 pins. Peanut high-pawed me, and Kiwi cheered like I’d just won the Super Bowl.

Between turns, we kept reminiscing about the Pitt game. Kiwi bragged about stealing two hats with her dive-bomb attack. The Quackers laughed about how they had Pitt fans running in circles, slipping on spilled beer. And Peanut, of course, told the nacho story three more times, adding extra details each round until it sounded like he had single-pawed taken on a whole tailgate.

We bowled, we laughed, we ate fries from someone else’s basket (don’t ask how we got them). It felt good, celebrating our victory together — not just as cousins, but as a squad.

By the time the lights dimmed for cosmic bowling, we were already talking about our next adventure. Peanut suggested laser tag. Kiwi says we should storm a roller rink. The Quackers just quacked in agreement.

Me? I’m just happy to be with my crew, wherever we end up.

There’s a strange kind of magic in Monday mornings. While the weekend leaves us feeling like we’ve been floating, Monday invites us to dive back in, full throttle, and shape the week ahead. It’s a fresh start, a blank page, and a chance to do better than last week—whether that’s finishing a project, sending that overdue email, or finally tackling that to-do list you’ve been avoiding.

Think of today not as a return to the grind, but as an opportunity to showcase what you’re capable of. Each email you send, each task you check off, and every little act of focus contributes to the bigger picture. You’re not just working; you’re building momentum for the rest of the week, one thoughtful step at a time.

So grab your coffee, shake off that Monday haze, and remember: even the grindstone can be a place for growth, creativity, and a little joy. Today isn’t just another day—it’s the foundation of something great.

Let’s get to it.

Sunday

Well here I sit in a quiet household, Kiwi and I are up talking about how the game went and planning on watching the Steelers today. I hate Pitt fans, but we're all Steeler fans on Sundays.

So what was the big announcement from yesterday and why wouldn't I say anything? Well, I have been collaborating with my old roommate Gregg (yes it was me who spelled his name wrong on that database) this past week, he was coming in for the Pitt game, which is not news as he is a letterman and a former player here in the 80's. He was bringing a girl he has been dating the last couple of years to the game and had a big surprise for her.

We've been talking all week and he wanted to propose marriage to his girlfriend Lifang (pronounced "Lee and fong like as in pong) and he wanted to surprise her by doing it at Coopers Rock. He asked me if I could just be a random person there taking pictures of the day and I did just that. I was pointing to a tree that was bent and pointing it out to Michelle so Lifang would be none the wiser. He got down on one knee on the big rock and proposed marriage to her and that was the big secret. She had no clue what was happening. Before anyone asks, she said yes. I'm not sure which one of the four of us was crying the most, Gregg, Lifang, Michelle or me.

Afterwards we all went out to brunch at Apple Annies. We stopped by Terri's work to say hello to her before we did that though. I think they both liked Apple Annies. Afterwards they drove to my place where Gregg parked his car for the game, I dropped them off and picked them up at the stadium after the game.

It was a great day.

Saturday Morning Ramblings

Here I sit, somewhat excited for the day. There is a big surprise that I can't speak about until tomorrow, but there is also a big Football game here in Morgantown today. Kiwi and Peanut are excited and ready to cheer on the Mountaineers as they take on Pitt here in Morgantown. We're going to have a party here!!!!!

Big announcement tomorrow, doesn't involve Michelle or me other than we have been asked to be present when it happens. I told someone it would be my honor to be there when it happens, as we have been talking about it this week.

If you are driving anywhere near the Football Stadium today, allow a lot of extra time so that you can get around. It's going to be the biggest game of the year.

Have yourselves a great day today, and let's go Mountaineers.

Are you ready for a little bit of High School Football action? Morgantown is at home taking on Hedgesville at Pony Lewis. University is on the road to take on Buckhannon-Upshur in Buckhannon. Clay Battelle is also at home this week, taking on Valley Wetzel out in Blacksville. Good luck to all three of the teams this evening, bring home three wins.

Big Day in Morgantown tomorrow, the evil University of Pittsburgh will be invading Morgantown and Rich Rodriguez and company are looking for some revenge. Revenge not only for last year, but 18 years ago when them bastards prevented up from playing in the National Championship. Time to whip some Panther ASS!!!!!

Be careful, there is going to be a whole lot of traffic around Morgatown today and tomorrow. Traffic is goingn to be heavy.

Have yourselves a great day

My Blog is now legal.

I'm changing my normal Photo Flashback Thursday this week to celebrate my Blogs 21st Birthday!!!!! 21 years ago I wanted to test this thing out called a blog (Web Log)  and I  created George's Journal as a place to write down my thoughts and post them on the internet when I had them.

That was 21 years ago today and well over 8,000 blogs later here we are. I've tried to make it entertaining by doing themes and providing information that may be useful to anyone who would happen to stumble upon this page.

I have tried toi entertain everyone, while trying not to get too emotional about anything, because there are over 8,000 posts you can go through and pull up and if I said something controversial, it could be brought back up and thrown in my face. Because the internet is forever, you know.
Thank you for reading 21 years woth of nothingness and here's to another 21 years worth.

I'm not sure of the year, maybe 1988 or 89, which predates many members of the family even being born. Gary is a very talented guitar player, it all came pretty much natural to him. Of course he worked to improve his skillsets, but music and playing about any instrament has always been natural to him.

I'm so glad my dad had the forsight to allow us to see this 37 years later and capture it for us all to see.

Have yoursleves a great day.

Lucy's Journal

Lucy’s Journal – “The Backyard Brawl Strike Force”

Dear Journal,

It’s me again, Lucy the white and tan Shih Tzu, neighborhood defender and tactical genius. Today’s mission is bigger than squirrels, bigger than mailmen, and even bigger than stealing half a sandwich off the counter.

The Pitt fans are coming.

I was lounging on the couch, dreaming about bacon, when Kiwi the Green Cheek Conure landed on my head and squawked, “Lucy, this is not a drill! The blue-and-yellow invaders are on their way into town.”

I leapt down, paws clicking on the floor like a general heading to war. “We’ll need backup,” I said. “We can’t handle all those Pitt fans alone.”

That’s when Amy’s twin ducks, the Quackers, waddled in like they’d been waiting for the call. Perfect timing.

We huddled in the backyard under the maple tree to plan:

  • Kiwi would be the air force. Dive-bombing, screeching, pulling hats right off their heads.

  • The Quackers would be the amphibious unit. They’re experts at sneak attacks — nothing unsettles a rival fan quite like webbed feet slapping toward them in perfect, angry unison.

  • Me, Lucy and Peanut, the ground commander. Barking, weaving, and tripping Pitt fans until their terrible chants fall apart.

Our strategy was simple: chaos.

When the first Pitt car rolled down the street, blaring their fight song, Kiwi shot into the air. She swooped down and clawed the air right in front of the windshield, making the driver spill his soda. Then the Quackers waddled out from behind a trash can, quacking like a marching band gone rogue.

And me? I charged right into their tailgate crew, barking so loud a guy dropped his hot dog. I snagged it midair like a pro wide receiver. Touchdown!

The whole street turned into a battlefield. Kiwi dive-bombed hats, the Quackers nipped at ankles in perfect stereo, and I darted around like a furry missile. The Pitt fans were stumbling, shouting, and dropping snacks left and right. WVU folks walking by cheered us on like we were part of the halftime show.

By the end, the Pitt fans retreated, muttering about “those crazy Morgantown animals.” Mission accomplished. The street smelled like victory… and hot dogs.

Operation Backyard Brawl Strike Force: Success.

You can tell that fall is starting to be upon us, I woke up this morning and Kiwi and Peanut had the fireplace going with a nice little fire and what were they making for Breakfast? Smores. Mom bought some long sticks this summer for this purpose and you can bet your bottom dollar that they are taking full advantage of it.

It's back to a normal workweek for me this week. I worked long days last week to make up for the Holiday on Monday and now it is back to my normal schedule and 8 hour shifts. My boss will actually be in Morgantown today for a meeting, hopefully he'll grab the dongle I was using in Parkerburg for the Mouse and Keyboard and take it back to Parkersburg to be used. While I have it both the external mouse and keyboard are pretty much useless.

So should be a pretty good day. You have one as well.

Sunday

Here I sit on a quiet Sunday Morning, Kiwi is still just gloating this morning for his amazing act of heroism yesterday morning for his Mommy. Mommy went grocery shopping and stopped by Starbucks to get herself a morning coffee, and she locked her keys in the car. Kiwi to the rescue as I grabbed the spare set out of the safe and he flew them down to her to open the car up, then flew the spare keys back home and put them in the safe. Yeah he's entitled to gloat.

No big plans for us today, other than watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Jets this afternoon at 1:00. It will give us our first look at Aaron Rodgers as the Steelers Quarterback. He didn't play any in the pre-season and was the Jet's QB the last two years. He's also the last Quarterback to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Superbowl, now we get to see how he looks in the Black and Gold.

That is going to be our Sunday, other than a few chores we'll be lounging around the house all day relaxing. That and listening to Kiwi gloat about saving Mommy yesterday with his act of heroism.

Have yourselves a great day, make some memories.

Saturday Morning

Here I sit once again in a quiet household, Kiwi and Peanut are already up tailgating for todays game. They are in the back yard playing a game of Cornhole and playing all different kinds of music. I don't have the heart to tell them that it's not a home game and it's being played in a small stadium in Athens Ohio.

The Mountaineers are playing at Ohio U in Athens Ohio this afternoon, the game is on at 4:00 and the game is on ESPNU if you get that game. Cheer on both the Mountaineers and Pitt to win today, strong rumor is that if both teams win today, that ESPN's Gameday will be in Morgantown next Saturday for the Backyard Brawl. Pat McAfee and the crew will be here with Nick Saban who is from Monongah doing the early morning Pregame show. We'll be the center of the College Football world, if we both win today. Go Mountaineers and Go Pitt.

I've had a very busy week this past week, I was in Clarksburg on Tuesday for a Gas 101 class (it was very informative) and then turned around on Wednesday and traveled to Parkersburg to work for the day. Hope has a number of facilities around the state, Parkersburg is where my boss and most of the GIS people work out of. I'm at the Corporate headquarters here in Morgantown, so that works to my advantage.

What's on the agenda for the day? Michelle is going to be doing the run around shopping for the upcoming week. I'll porobably be writing a few blogs and playing with Open Street Map where I am teaching myself to write OSM Queries to extract features from the open source map. I watch a lot of Jose Monkey Tik Toks and learning some of his tricks for locational analysis. I'm such a Geography geek.

Have yoursleves a great day, make some memories.

Are you ready for a little bit of High School Football action? Well the mighty Morgantown Mohigans fresh off of the butt whipping they issued last week to Pakersburg are on the road to take on Jefferson. The University High Hawks play theior home opener and take on Parkersburg South. Clay Battelle hosts Frontier Ohio out in Blacksville. I don't believe Trinity is hosting a Football team this season, I can't find any schedule for them. Good luck to all the local teams this evening.

WVU will be on the road tomorrow for a game against Ohio U. Peden stadium only holds 25,000 fans adn I have no idea why any athletic director (who we since fired) would sign a contract for this game in such a small stadium. What an absolute bonehead move, now he's at Alabama and they just cancelled a Home and Home against us that was supposed to start next year with Alabama coming to Morgantown. At least they managed to get two home games for that one.

Today is the end of my 10 hour days this week, lot's of travel this week as well, so I'm glad this week is complete.

Have yoursleves a great day

Photo Flashback Thursday

Once a week, I like to take a little bit of time out, time to look at some of the 30,000+ photos that I have stored on my computer. Little lost moments in time that I either captured with a lens, scanned, or just stole from somewhere on the internet. I like to find just one and post it up and recall or relive the picture to the best of my ability. Sometimes this is a pretty easy task, and sometimes it's not that easy, but one thing it has always been a lot of fun.

There is a thing in our family called the Hall Salute. It's when I am taking a picture and people tend to flip me off as I am taking the picture. Years ago I wanted to do a video to the I-95 Asshole song and found a number of pictures of family members flipping me off.

So now that brings us to this picture, a few years ago Amy held a get together at her home (like she just did this past weekend) and these are 2/3 of my sisters flipping me off. Keeping up with the Hall Tradition.

Have yoursleves a great day, flip someone off and make your own day.

Lucy's Journal

 Journal Entry – September 3rd

Written by Lucy, the white and tan Shih Tzu

Dear Journal,

Tomorrow morning is going to be glorious. Not for the school kids, of course — for us. Me, Peanut, and Kiwi have been waiting all summer for this moment: the return of the big yellow school buses.

I love watching them shuffle out of their houses with sleepy eyes, heavy backpacks, and those crumpled papers clutched in their hands. Their faces always look the same — a mix of why me? and I should still be in bed. Honestly, it’s hilarious. I can’t help but let out my little “hehe” snort every time.

Here’s our plan:

Step 1 – Positioning.
I’ll take my post at the front window, nose smushed against the glass, tail wagging. Peanut will be stretched out dramatically on the windowsill like a judgmental king, glaring down at the kids like he’s grading their enthusiasm (spoiler: they always fail). And Kiwi? Oh, Kiwi will be perched on the curtain rod, ready with her commentary.

Step 2 – Play-by-Play.
As soon as the kids come out, Peanut flicks his tail like he’s giving them a score. I’ll bark once if someone trips on their shoelaces, twice if they drop their lunchbox. Kiwi usually takes it further — she squawks, “SLOWPOKE! SLOWPOKE!” at the last one running for the bus. It’s savage, but oh-so-funny.

Step 3 – The Bus Arrival.
The moment the bus screeches to a stop, we all go silent. Pure theater. Watching the kids climb on like little zombies marching to their destiny… it’s better than cable TV. Once the doors close and the bus drives off, Kiwi usually yells “BYEEEE!” just to rub it in.

The humans think we’re just being noisy in the morning. They have no idea we’re running a secret comedy club.

Honestly, Journal, it feels good to be the ones laughing for once. All summer long it was traffic, skateboards, and noisy students. Now it’s our turn to enjoy the show.

Sleep tight, alarm clocks are coming… but not for me.

Smugly yours,
🐾 Lucy the Early Morning Comedian

P.S. Kiwi suggested we make little “scorecards” for the kids tomorrow. Peanut says 3 out of 10 of them will trip. I say 5.

Labor Day

Well there will be no working today, it is Labor Day and the unofficial end of Summer. Kiwi and Peanut are going to put their Culinary skills to work and prepare us dinner this evening. They are such good and proactive pets, maybe I should introduce them to Kylea's pet Ducks, the quackers.

Yes I am off today, but I have to travel to Clarksburg tomorrow for a Gas 101 training session and then turn around and run to Parkerburg on Wednesday to meet the rest of the GIS team that I haven't met just yet. In think we are assembling a pretty strong GIS team to be honest with you, looking forward to working with them.

I may have some work this month with Parsons, some tasks may come through mid to late month where they will need my services and I'll be working both jobs. Not planning on leaving either job, and I do like getting back into an office environment. I think it is helping me healthwise getting up and moving around more, the past 5 years working from home was good, but it took a toll on my overall health I think.

Have yourself a great day and make it special.
