Lucy's Journal

Journal Entry – September 17th
Written by Lucy, the white and tan Shih Tzu

Dear Journal,

Okay. Big idea. Huge. Today I’ve decided I need to convince Mom — and Gerald, because teamwork makes the dream work — to make me a bacon-bit flavored cake. With a candle. And here’s the kicker… it has to play “Country Roads” when I blow it out. I know. Genius.

Step one: emotional appeal.
I sat on Mom’s lap for a solid ten minutes this morning, resting my head on her shoulder, looking at her with my puppy-dog eyes X 10. She said, “Lucy, you’re so cute.” I nodded like, “Exactly. You know I deserve this cake.”

Step two: logic.
I trotted over to Gerald — he’s good with persuasion, though he mostly pretends he’s too dignified to care. I whispered in his ear (well, as much as one can whisper with a bark), “Gerald, if Mom makes this cake, it will prove she’s the best mom in the universe. Plus, think about the bacon crumbs we can lick off together. Epic teamwork.” He blinked once, then flicked his tail. That’s a yes in cat language, right?

Step three: auditory reinforcement.
I practiced the “Country Roads” tune in my barks while sitting under the table. Mom paused and said, “Are you… singing?” Exactly. I’m already halfway there.

Step four: visual demonstration.
I rolled over, pawed at my food dish, then at Mom’s oven mitt, then sat and tilted my head like, “Cake? Candle? Bacon bits? Country Roads? I trust you get the idea.”

Honestly, Journal, I’m feeling confident. Gerald’s on board, Kiwi was perched on the counter judging our plan, and Mom is… well, she’ll cave eventually. How could she resist the combined power of my fluffy charm, Gerald’s mysterious approval nods, and a green-feathered accomplice giving a suspicious side-eye?

This cake is destiny. I can taste the bacon bits already. And the singing. And the candle… oh, the glorious candle.

Mission: convince. Success: inevitable.

Strategically yours,
🐾 Lucy the Cake Visionary

P.S. Kiwi suggested we add whipped cream. I told her, “Let’s not get greedy… yet.”
